After completing his education in 1993, Dr. Bani Kumar Mitra commenced his practice, eventually founding the renowned Surgy Centre in 1995, alongside his wife, Dr. Konkon Das (Mitra). In 2020, the centre evolved into the esteemed Abha Surgy Centre. Driven by a passion for innovation, they introduced IVF services in 2005, revolutionizing reproductive healthcare in Eastern India.

His commitment to advancing IVF technology has transformed Abha Surgy Centre into one of the finest institutions offering cost-effective IVF solutions in the region.

Dr. Bani Kumar Mitra’s scholarly contributions are widely recognized in Eastern India, as well as in countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia and Malaysia, with over 50 presentations published in esteemed medical journals.

Beyond his professional endeavours, Dr. Bani Kumar Mitra indulges in gardening and relishes taking short breaks to rejuvenate. He also actively participates in social initiatives through Brahma Kumaris.

Dr. Konkon Mitra, a third-generation doctor and the earliest clinical embryologist of the country, was born in Kolkata and raised in Jharkhand’s Bokaro city. Dr. Mitra pursued her schooling at St. Xavier's School in Bokaro and college from JNMC, Belgaun, Karnataka. She then pursued specialized studies in Clinical Embryology obtaining training from Singapore under the mentorship of Arif Bongso.

Throughout her career, Dr. Mitra has demonstrated exceptional patient counselling skills, ensuring that individuals and couples undergoing fertility treatments understand their options and feel supported throughout the process.

Dr. Mitra's journey with ASHPL began with a vision to offer cutting-edge fertility treatments. Her leadership has enabled the establishment of a full-fledged ART Bank, further enhancing the centre's capabilities.
