Launch of Uronto Uterus by Deep Prakashan

A Book Based on a Unique Conversation on Women’s Reproductive Health Between Dr. Bani Kumar Mitra and Author, Ms. Debarati Mukhopadhyay

Uronto Uterus, a thought-provoking book born out of a chance interaction between renowned reproductive healthcare specialist, Dr. Bani Kumar Mitra, Founder & Chief Consultant, Abha Surgy Centre, and acclaimed author Ms. Debarati Mukhopadhyay, was launched by Dr. Indranil Khan, Hon’ble Minister of Sports, Government of West Bengal, Ms. Madhabi Mukhopadhyay, Legendary Actress, Ms. Gargee Roy Chowdhury, renowned actress and Mr. Kshitiz Murdia, CEO, Indira IVF, as a part of World IVF Day celebrations.

“During one of my recent visits to Darjeeling, I just happened to meet the versatile author Ms. Debarati Mukhopadhyay who was staying in the same property where I had put up. Though we were unknown to each other, our initial discussions ultimately led to a deep – rooted conversation on various aspects surrounding infertility. She thus got an idea to come up with a book based on the discussions we had over a couple of days, and now we have an interesting book – Uronto Uterus. Infertility is not merely a medical condition; it is deeply intertwined with emotions, relationships and societal perceptions. Through this book, Debarati has simplified complex concepts while encouraging a more compassionate and informed understanding of women’s reproductive health and the remarkable journey of reproductive medicine”, said Dr. Bani Kumar Mitra, Founder & Chief Consultant, Abha Surgy Centre.

Going beyond a conventional medical narrative, the book examines subjects such as hysteria, hysterectomy, endometriosis, miscarriage, IVF, ICSI, donor programmes, surrogacy, ethics and law. It also reflects on how the female body has been viewed through changing historical and social perspectives, encouraging readers to question long-held myths and misconceptions surrounding reproductive health.
